Bringing this thread back to the top. Did you ever get this issue resolved? I’m experiencing similar issues. It’ll stay in 1st or 2nd gear for a while and then decide to shift. Sometimes the speedo will jump from cruising speed to zero and any where in between. It’s intermittent for me as well but happens more often. I would say the only consistency is that it happens as the engine/transmission warms up. Fully warm or dead cold it doesn’t happen. Not that I can notice. I haven’t tried any of the suggestions mentioned here yet though.

We took the truck to Ford who replaced the main lead frame connection and reprogrammed the transmission. The part cannot be purchased at O'Reilly because it actually needs to be programmed by ford prior to install. My ford dealer was gonna charge 500 for the part and another 150 to program. If i brought the parts separately to their service. They charged 700 totoal with install and warranty of 2 years.

Earlier you said your gear indicator is stuck in 2, this is the problem, there's a range switch built into the lead frame that needs to be lined up with the shifter selector in the trans when it's installed. If it isn't lined up properly the truck won't start because it won't register as being in park or neutral, you need to drop the valve body back down and line it up properly.

No problem, I've seen the issue before and quickly recognized what probably happened. You specifically want to make sure the black plastic piece to the right of the shaft that slides back and forth in the lead frame lines up with the shaft as shown in the photo, there's tab the sticks out and fits in the grove in the shaft. You'll be able to see that this is your problem just by dropping the pan and looking up from the bottom, but to correct it the lead frame has to be unbolted from the valve body and realigned.

Thanks again for the help you where spot on. I took the trans pan back off and Although I did line the lead frame up with the valve body I didn’t line it up with the peace that is attached to the truck itself. After that it started right up. That’s what I get for trying to doing things at night.
thanks
