Default 2013 EcoBoost Issue

Hey, looking for some help here. I have a 2013 F150 eco boost FX4. It’s been a good truck, but has started to have an intermittent issue. I believe it’s a transmission issue, but could be wrong. Sometimes when I put it drive, it will be slow to accelerate, as if it’s in a higher gear than 1st. Then sometimes I will be driving down the highway and it will all of a sudden “hop” and it’s like it has slipped out of gear, then it’s like it gears down, because my tire will “bark” at me like it’s trying to slow down really fast. One of the last times it happened, my speedometer jumped from 60 to 80, then to 0. It’s currently at Ford for the second time for this issue and they still say they can’t find anything wrong and it’s not throwing any error codes. I do also realize it could be a communication issue with the computer or just form of an electrical issue. I just really need it fixed and would love a solution or some input.

Thanks!

There is a recall for this problem for 2011-2012 trucks. The NHTSA is working on extending it to 2013, because it affects us, as well. Transmission lead frame recall. I don't have the numbers offhand, look it up.

Impressive that yet another dealer has never heard of a massive known safety issue. Although most people do get an orange wrench and one of two particular error codes.

Interesting. So, I have to wait for it to be fixed, since they can’t actually “find” anything wrong with it?

Default Maybe try cleaning control cable plugs

I too experienced infrequent transmission shift problems. Once with the wrench & a loss of speed sensor code far from home on a Sunday. Exercised (unplugged/pluged in plug at trans several times to wipe contacts clean), reset and was good for another 18 months.
Then twice again with no wrench or codes and nowhere near a dealer. Exercised & sprayed contact cleaner on plugs at both ends of the control cable that time. And have had no problem since, (two oil changes or about 10k miles ago).
My truck falls within the recall date range, it may have an intermittent "bad" lead frame. Or maybe just oxidized connections in the plugs.

I had the same issue on my 2013 but it was fixed under warranty. Lead frame was the culprit. It happened around 20,000 miles and now I am at 60,000. No issues since.

IDK, dealers are often a pain. When I had this problem they fixed the connector, not the entire frame. Maybe Barry's advice would help you. Oh, I also had 2 events of losing gear before the 3rd which finally provided a wrench and DTC. That's when I took it in.

thanks! I will have to give that a try. I talked to ford this morning and they are refusing to do or check anything because it isn’t throwing any type of code.
