Default 2013 brake issue

Hey all, first post but long time lurker.

Having a brake issue. Long story short, passenger caliper locked up for some reason. 2013 5.0 83,000 miles if it matters.

Replaced both front calipers, hoses, pads, and rotors, fluid exchange. After driving a while I could smell brakes burning. Driver side caliper locked up so swapped it out and drove it around again. Driver side locked up again.

Took to a local mechanic shop, they replaced everything I replaced and had the same issue. They thought it was the ABS pump so replaced that. Front driver caliper locked up again. So swapped all the parts back out and tested both the new pump and mine, both were functioning.

Local mechanic talks to some engineers at Ford who believed it was an ABS module issue that needs to be reset with some Ford computer program. My mechanic said he didn’t have the program and recommended I take it to Ford.

So I take it to Ford, after three days of them looking at it they claim the module can’t be reset or anything and they can’t find an issue. I told them to drive it and hit the rotors with a thermometer, which they did, over 100 degree difference.

They claim the caliper is bad and want $548 to replace it. I said it’s already been done with 4 different rotors. They put it back together and give it back to me.

So, now it still locks up and I’m running out of ideas.

TLDR: front caliper locks up and nobody can figure out why. No indicator lights on the dash.

What’s wrong with it?

Possibly bad brake line on that wheel. Did you only replace the last hose? Maybe it's the solid ABS line.

I’ll give it a shot. I’ll be hose #3 since the factory one was removed. Didn’t get a chance to mess with it today, but got a couple ideas from another forum.

Thanks for the help.

Are the pads in correctly, if you used pads with ears? Do the pads fit loosely? so the can slide and release?

Is the driver side locking up or is the passenger side not working making it rely on the drivers caliper thus causing the heat difference? Any chance the hose on the passenger side is twisted restricting fluid flow causing the drivers side to work harder? And as mentioned check to be sure your pads are indeed installed correctly.

Update for you guys

Both pads on the drivers side had the humps on top while the passenger side didn’t have any humps in the pads.

Swapped the pads to make sure the humps were both on the inside and it’s been fine so far.

A handful of techs and mechanics missed it somehow.

good. They may have missed it because Ford and some other manufactures have stopped making one with ears. Glad you got it sorted,

I think you have that backwards. Some mfgrs have stopped making different pads because so many people have installed wrong. (probably)
