Default 2013 Backup Camera Project

Does anyone know what the voltage is for the rear view mirror? I am trying to install a backup camera in my '13 Mustang using a mirror with RVD from a '13 F150 in an attempt to keep the OEM look of the vehicle. The mirror P/N is BU5A-17E678-CD RVD/Compass. I cannot get the mirror to power up with 12 volts (either on the bench or in the car). I am 100% sure the mirror works. Is there a trigger voltage or a jumpered wire I am not aware of? I have the wire diagram for the connector and the backup system, however I cannot even get it powered let alone a video signal. I asked the service and parts departments at 3 local dealerships and I get the "deer in the headlights" look from all of them. A local automotive electronics installation shop is stumped too.

That mirror will not power up without CAN BUS power to pin 2 of the mirror. I know where it is on a 13 F150 but not on your Mustang, sorry. Someone on this forum might know where to tap that BUS line voltage on your Mustang. on the F150 it goes to pin 52 of the 52 pin BCM connector in the right kick panel.

I caution against just driving 12v to that connection because I think there is some magic that occurs on the BUS... someone else know for sure? If someone has a late model (11-13) F150 they can test the line voltage on pin 2 of the video mirror to be sure.

Otherwise you could easily sell that mirror to a guy who needs it for his Ford truck and just buy a Gentex GENK-332 for your camera setup. We have them here:

We used to sell that gyro mirror for nearly $500 but now they are not available new. Ours had a 3.5" screen though...

Thank you so much! Its all starting to make sense now! From my wiring diagrams, it looks like pin 2 on the F150 is for the dash mounted compass display. It tees off from the BCM to the compass and to the mirror (CAN BUS ?) My compass display is wired differently and I found instructions to actually take the circuit card out of my original mirror housing wrap it in foam and hide it in the dash somewhere. If I cannot find the line voltage I think I will take your advice and sell this mirror. Thanks again!
