Default 2013 5.0 MAF sensor.....stranded???

So the other day my buddy and I headed to the hills to do some riding. About 3 miles from our destination my check engine light came on. I thought it was a bit odd but I was almost to out destination so we continued on. The truck wasn't acting weird so I didn't think much of it being under warranty and all. We parked and unloaded the trailer and took off on a 2 hour ride. When we got back to the truck it was almost dark so I started it and noticed it was running rough. Loaded the bikes and hopped in...(this is where it gets bad) put it in drive and it won't move...I'm now thinking "hmm, guess we should have turned around". This truck only has 14,000 miles on it, who would have thought it would leave us stranded 20 miles out of town with no cell service! Sooooo, after about 20 min of playing with the pedal I finally floor it and it starts to jump and move a little. Long story short we got it back to town and on the way to the dealer it completely dies....won't run at all. It's now been there for 3 days and they are telling me everything points to the MAF sensor. So they ordered it and it should be here tomorrow. Has anyone else had this problem?!? And does it really have to leave me stranded? I've been in quite a few truck that have gone into limp mode, none of which ever left me stranded.....thoughts?

Not the same year or truck, but I've had a 1995 F250 do the same thing, and the MAF/IAC needed replaced.

Same thing happened to me back in April on a freeway on-ramp with no shoulder. Just under 13k at the time. Stock everything. I replaced the air filter back in January with a Motorcraft part. Good times. . The tech unplugged the MAF during diagnosis and the truck started running again. They replaced the battery and MAF under warranty. Took two days to diagnose. All has been well since with 16k on the clock.
