I have found that the tuxedo black is the worst offender of the missing paint on the bottoms of the doors

I have numerous paint defects all over the truck. Treadwell Ford Collison shop likes to buff them out and them leave no paint. I have had many of them repainted, but they make more of a mess than it was to begin with. I also have on the inside driver side door bottom part looks like corrosion painted over. I have yet to address it. Probably going to hit a different dealer for that.

To Wallacemf, I also have a 2012 Ignot Silver with many of the same problems. Check your tailgate around all the seams, your doors around all the seams and the bottom of your bed below the tailgate. Mine is at the body shop for the second time pretty much getting the whole truck repainted. Nice isn't it.

Has anybody taken delivery of a 2013 with these same issues? I have one ordered and am hoping Ford has their paint process in control. I am leaving GMC because of poor quality and hope I am not making a mistake in going with the F150.

How long has Ford been building trucks? And you are hopeing that by 2013 they have figured it out lol. Ford sells 100s of 1000s of trucks a year and saves tons of money on skimping on the paint (among other things). They can afford to warranty the few (% wise) that are noticed and complained about. Until the majority of owners bit^h about it they will
just keep on saving

Firstly, if you are switching to Ford because of quality, and the paint on your truck is the only complaint you have? You are doing pretty well.

Secondly, if your going to be concerned with the paint, just know that, even if you go to any other manufacturer, the"paint" will still be an issue. And you will probably never be happy. See my previous posts, on some other manufacturers.

If you get anything from these threads, its education. Read as many threads on this subject as you can. So you will know the problem areas to check, before you take delivery. Such as the bottoms of the doors for missing paint, dust nibs on the hood/roof, and paint bubbles. Pointing these out(if you even have them...you may get lucky and wont have any paint issues), before you even go home with your truck will be better in the long run. And whatever happens...do not take that, "oh yeah, its supposed to look that way" excuse from the dealer.

I was at the dealer having pics of the paint on my 2012 taken. they had a new 2013 there that was literally two different colors on one side. It was an ingot silver truck, the the paint difference was striking.

The dealer is working with Ford on what to do with it, since it can't be sold, it'll have to be reprinted.

Check out what you buy, thoroughly, before you sign off on the paperwork....

Ugh...really? I can now no longer say, "yeah, you may have no paint at the bottoms of your doors, but at least all your panels are all the same color." Sweet.

A common cause of that, is painting the panels separately from the cab, or bed (box). When you do that, everything is a factor. Such as dry times, number of color coats, etc. And then not duplicating that on the cab. Will be most common on silvers or lighter metallic colors.

I'm not loyal to any particular brand. I've had a new 2005 Ram 1500 4x4, a new 2006 Ram 4x4 diesel, a new 2010 F350 SD 4x4, a new 2012 Ram 2500 diesel, and now a new 2012 F150 screw 4x4.

My 2012 F350 was built well and trouble free.

Frankly, the build quality of the Mexican-built Ram HDs that I have had far exceeds what I see with this F150.

On my F150, in addition to the paint problems, the tail lights were shoved in at an angle and over torqued. They are in crooked and have gouged the paint out. Who does this??? There just seems to be no pride in building something, and doing it correctly.

Never had any initial issues with the Ram trucks. The paint was perfect, build quality great.

Just my observation, having owned both brands repeatedly....
