Default 2012 Ecoboost Intercooler TSB

I have a 2012 F 150 with the ecoboost engine. I bought it new a couple of months ago. I currently have about 3600 miles on it. I was driving in to work last week at around 50 mph when the engine shuttered a few times. I was going up a very slight incline. Since then the engine has shuttered off and on several times. The fuel milage has dropped from my average of 17.6 to 16 also.

I took the truck into the dealer this morning to let them look at it. The service manager said no codes were stored and that Ford has issued a new TSB on the intercooler. He said they are having to order one for me.

The mechanics supervisor walked up and I talked to him briefly. He told me that this was a new TSB on the intercooler and my truck would be the first change out at the dealership with this new design. He said after they change the intercooler, they would flash my trucks computer. He also said that Ford has had issues with the engines runnning performance since day one and this new intercooler design is supposed to correct the enigne shutter, engine missing and lower fuel economy. He also told me that there was no stored codes just as the service manager stated but he also said if there had been a code it would probably have been due to a failed left cat converter and it would have had to be changed.

Now to my questions...

Is there a new designed intercooler for this truck and has anyone already had one installed and has it eliminated issues?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, the answer is yes. Like stated above there's a long thread in existence already. Looks like you will get a new IC and deflector shield to correct the problem.

Sounds like I need to mention this on the first oil change visit. Thanks for the info! And a tsb number would be very helpful!

Here's the attached #12-10-19 TSB. I took my truck in today for the first oil change to a local Ford dealer which is not where I bought my truck. I told the service advisor about my truck losing power when trying to pass and shuddering during a rainy drive a few weeks ago. He looked at me like I was crazy--said he'd never heard the IC condensation issue and wouldn't even look at the TSB I printed out. He said they'd need to keep the truck and re-create the issue and/or check for a code if my check engine light had gone off. They'd need the truck an additional hour or so beyond the oil change. I didn't have time so will likely call the service manager or go to another dealer. What did I expect--I schooled the guy as he didn't even know the '12 Ecoboost 3.5 uses 5W-30 instead of 5W-20. I'm not real impressed.

I'm getting new cats and intercooler because of this. Mine threw a CEL though and I left it on when I took it in. Parts should be in sometime next week or the week after.
