Default 2011 backup camera

My backup camera has started working intermittently. No consistency... just randomly doesn't work. I was going to simply order a new camera but thought I would ask on here if anyone had this problem and found it to be something else. It would be my luck to buy a new camera on,y to find it is a different problem.

Thanks, Greg

Check the connections. There's one next to the spare tire that could easily be messed up. Otherwise, probably the camera.

I see no evidence of any damage to the harness. Short of cutting it open not sure how to check it. You would think if is had. A broken wire you would see evidence of wear or fatigue of some sort.

I would of thought so too, but the copper broke inside the individual wire sleeve. couldn't tell from the outside. after opening the outer covering and using a needle to pierce the wire without doing too much damage I checked continuity with a multi-meter. I found a bad wire- splice in a new wire and i was off to the races!

Thanks B737. Read the front page about every day and had not seen anything like that. I know "SEARCH" should have been pursued. Please, moderator, close this thread.

I'm having the same probably. Getting a blue screen for a few seconds and then it goes blank. I've lost the guidelines and backup assist.
Everything now and then I'll show the backup camera view but that's rare. But here's the weird thing....... On the rare occasion that it does work it'll keep working until I restart the truck. It's almost like the canbus received a valid conformation from the camera during that time the truck was running. So it'll keep showing the camera when you put it in reverse until you stop the truck. During this time you still can't activate the guidelines though.

I have a new Camera, emblem housing, emblem, AND a wiring harness that goes through the tailgate begging delivered in a few days. I'm going to replace each component 1 at a time to narrow it down the problem.
Hopefully I can report back some good news that it's only the $35 cable that's the problem.
