2011 F150 dual zone heater. I have my dash removed but I still can't see how the actuator comes out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok everyone... I'm in a bit of a pickle here.

My DS heat was stuck on for 3 years, and I've lived with it, but now it's switched to cold... This is clearly a symptom of the lower failed actuator, so I purchased a replacement, and removed the seats, console, ducting and supports from the lower HVAC assembly.

The actuator came out without much fuss, and the new one went right in. I pulled the #15 fuse on my 2010, to recalibrate the motor and it still will not move from cold.

I've confirmed that the blend door WILL turn, by removing the actuation gear from the old actuator and rotating it open and closed, and feeling the vents on the drivers side go from hot to cold...

I've since replaced the NEW actuator with another, and I have no luck getting the heater control to manipulate the actuator.

It WILL control the passenger side when in single zone mode, as will the dual zone controller, however, the main temperature selection **** seems to have NO effect on this DS actuator...

Help!

I should mention... the actuator WILL rotate under its own power if I remove it and watch it, though it seems not to move in relation to the controller temp selection, just randomly and in slow increments at times... Generally it will end its rotation with the flat side of the spline facing in a direction that would be far beyond it's maximum travel...

Edit: Okay, figured it out. Theres a screw on the passenger side (now named the "M'Fer"). Ended up with a swivel socket and 16 inch extension to get it out. Needless to say but it didnt go back in... Wow, this was a job. Thanks to the posts here and other info. Works like a champ now.

The "need to remove this" is not necessary.

If you got the other upper piece out, you have access to the DS screw. The only other screw is on the PS. The third hole in the actuator is just an alignment peg.

If you're having trouble sliding the actuator out, try coming at it from laying in the drivers side foot well, with your right hand reaching to PS floor vent. Pull towards you and that entire vent assembly will shift/flex about an inch which is enough room for the actuator to slide out and to the left.

My question is how did you remove the part you labeled as "removed this"? I know there are a bunch of 8mm screws around but none of them seem to loosen this upper vent portion to pull out. any help?

cut lower duct right side corner to remove lower blend door

another view with duct piece cut

removed support from lower vent to upper vent in order to take out upper vent

easily access drivers side screw that is holding in the blend door once you make a few modifications. this allowed me to perform this work without removing the entire airbox and heater core.

There are only two screws that hold this one in. The one you can see on the left, and another directly across from it.

Admittedly, I removed the one, and the tab that holds it on place on the other side broke from the lower vent housing, so only one screw was removed in my attempt.

Replaced the HVAC module in the dash with one from a wrecker. Did not require a reprogram, plug and play in my case. Actuator was not the problem.

Has anyone come up with a easier way to move the drivers side vent door actuator. My truck is a 2013 FX4 with dual zone.

Looks like I may be in the same boat. My drivers side no longer produces heat but the passenger side does. I was thinking the problem may be the blend door actuator but I'm not getting any of the clicking noises like others report. Could I have a different issue??

Both sides will change from floor vent, to front vents, to defrost, but the driver side temperature always stays cool while the passenger side has heat like it should.

I have a 2010 Lariat and it started blowing hot on the passenger side as well as the back seat air vent about 3 weeks ago after I took it into the dealer for an oil change. It's remarkable how we're all having the same problem at the same time. Was anyone able to solve their issue? Unless I missed it, it looks as if no one was able to fix it diy'ing.
