Default 2010 or 2011 Platinum?

F150 Enthusiasts,

This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking for awhile. You all have some beautiful trucks, and I am in awe of the meticulous time and effort you put into upkeep, modifications etc. I am very impressed!

I am in the market to buy a used F150 within the next few weeks. I am currently looking at two different Platinums. Both white, both loaded. My question is, which one would you spring for?

Option 1:

2010 Platinum, White
V8
31,830 miles

2011 Platinum, White
EcoBoost
46,260

A good family friend is the finance director at the dealer, and should be able to get me a good deal, especially since they are used trucks. But there is very little difference in sticker price at the moment.
I am just curious if the 2011 options and upgrades are worth the increase in miles. Which would you all choose? Thank you again!

Were it me, I'd go with the 2010 if you're looking at used unless the 2011 has had the work done to correct a few small issues with the EB. Check that out. Must be a reason somebody traded that in with so few miles. If your just wanting a truck- the 5.4 is a great engine, strong as a bull, and good for a lot of miles. You might be able to wiggle them down on price too. I love my 5.4. It's a real work horse, not a race horse.

That all being said- the 2011 will tow better if that's your purpose, and will get better mileage per tank unloaded. I believe there were some differences between the '11 and '12 that corrected a few small issues- somebody with more knowledge can chime in?

Either choice would be great but I'd lean to the '10. Just my humble opinion though.

Eco-boost but get them to extend the warranty to 100K MILES then drive it till you have 99,999 miles on it then get another truck

Hahaha. I know how that goes. My Dad has a Navigator with 160k on the clock. He puts about $3-5,000 every few months in repairs.

Get the Ecoboost and you will never need more power.

Tough choice, but I am surprised that they are very close in price. Must be the higher miles on the newer truck.
If 'twer me, the deciding factor would be how much weight and how often I was going to tow with the truck.
The EB is a towing monster, and able to tow significant weight at lower (and quieter) rpm's than the 5.4.
I've owned and towed with both and much prefer the EB for my needs, which consists of thousands of miles towing a nearly 9,000 pound TT through the Rockies and mountain passes here in the western part of the U.S.
As stated, have them pull up the service records of both trucks with the VIN, and see what the service problems, if any, have been for both trucks......AND that the needed recalls have been performed on the EB.

I have owned a 2010 5.4 XLT SCREW with 3.55 rear and currently drive a 2012 3.5 Eco Platinum SCREW w/ 3.73 rear,

The Eco is a much more fun to drive - no comparison, gets better fuel econ - on highways is were the Ecoboost really shows up the 5.4 in MPGS - they got similar city MPGs for me, my 2012 shifts 1000% better than my 2010 did. I would get the Ecoboost.

Definitely go with the 2011, I was in the same boat and after weeks of researching the 11 was a better option because of the additional features and the ecoboost. The Eco is a pretty biased option but just get the updates and an extended warranty if your still in doubt. I've had mine couple months now and don't regret the decision one second. WAY! More power than my 5.4 and better fuel economy. I got bought the extended warranty so piece of mind is there. But really look at all the turbo diesels and how many actually have turbo issues? Not very many

Dealer is also a friend, so price should be very negotiable on both. I will be using the truck for construction work in the summer. I go to school in Denver though, so extra power is extremely helpful when driving in the Rockies.
