Actually it's not an E brake, or an Emergency brake... but rather a...

PARKING BRAKE!! Use it for parking on an incline because the transmission is not guaranteed to hold the vehicle on an incline!

Oh, and something is wrong with your PARKING brake or you don't put it on far enough if it allows the truck to roll, forwards or backwards. All of my Fords have worked just fine in either direction, even with a load attached. In fact, I park on a forward facing downhill incline everyday in my driveway and the parking brake has no problem holding it back.

OK PARKING BRAKE!!!!!!! GOT IT. So don't even attempt to use it in an emergency. jk you're right it's called a parking brake. Am I really the only one that notices the reduced forward holding power of the emer I mean PARKING brake. I better get it checked. Thanks

ya, im guilty of rarely using my parking brake on small hills, but I ALWAYS use it if parking on a steep incline, just something about the loud click/thunk you get when taking it out of park if you dont use it that I dont like. I make sure to press parking brake and make sure its holding before i even put it in park and then put it in drive or reverse before I ever release the brake to avoid this problem. I believe the manual recommends you always use it, though most people do not.

Check my post here from my original post here.

OP, keep pushing the issue with the dealer and document everything. Good luck!

Exactly and this is the correct way to use it! Most people, if they even use the parking brake, will just put it on after they put it in park and it settles onto the transmission anyway and you still get that painful clunk/thunk!

I read in some driver's manual that you should firmly apply the brakes and then set the parking brakes to get the full braking power available -
I don't think it would matter on these brakes though, since they have a different set of brakes for the parking brakes vs. the service brakes.

Are you guys trying to use them to stop when the truck is moving when you say they don't work worth a crap?
