Default 2009 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat: Rolling Backwards While in Park

Well, I haven't had this truck for even a week yet and have already come across a serious problem. The truck doesn't even have 150 miles on it yet.

I was showing my dad the reverse camera and how it worked. I put the truck in park, and turned if off, and took the key out of the ignition. I got out and noticed the truck started to move. I thought it was just moving that slight bit that most cars usually do before hitting the transmission pin. When it was all said and done we estimated that the truck rolled 6 feet before the transmission pin caught and the truck abrubtly stopped rolling.

This is a major safety issue and could cause damage to the truck if it were to do it again and actually hit something.

Has anybody had any problems like this or heard of anything like this? I wonder if there are any TSBs or if Ford knows of this issue?

You should take it in and get that fixed. I park on a very steep grade at my dad's house and have left it there for hours with no problems. If it rolled 6ft it would have been in the street.

A truck should not roll backwarks when parked on an incline. It seems you are the first one to post about this problem on the '09s.

When the dealer fixes the problem, post the fix done to correct the problem.

I know this is a year old thread but my 2010 just did the same thing but forward. It was in park with the key removed and started rolling. I thought it was just the normal roll till catch but it never stopped so i jumped in and stopped it. Has not done it again yet.

Emergency brakes don't work that well anyway. Especially when moving forward. I've noticed this in all my fords.

Although RES4CUE is coming off a little harsh, he has a point...you really shouldn't be letting a heavy truck roll forward to hit that pin. The pin is really there as a fail safe if the parking brake fails, not the other way around.

But ya, there's something wrong there, take it to the dealer ASAP.

I guess what I should have said is when parked facing down a steep hill the truck still rolls until the trans locks when facing up a hill the brakes hold fine whether in park or not. I agree always use e-brake on hills but I wouldn't rely on it especially if my truck might doll 6' before trans catches it. maybe something is wrong with my e-brake but never had it checked because like I said all of my fords have been this way.
