Default 1tune to another question

Hey everyone. I have a custom tune on my 5.0 using a SCT programmer. I ordered a custom tune from another company. My question is before I load the new tune do I need to set the truck back to stock 1st or can I just load the new tune over the current tune? Thanks for any info.

Hi.

I would, in the interests of safety. You will need to remove the programmer and connect it to yer pc to download the tune. If for any reason you experience problems with the Updater, you risk losing yer stock calibration.

In fact, I'd consider it to be a Best-Practice to always return to stock whenever you have reason to connect the programmer to a pc for any reason. (You MUST do so if yer gonna update the firmware).

Hence:

1. Return to stock
2. connect to pc
3. run the updater and install the new tune on the programmer
4. connect to truck
5. select the new tune, modify any required settings if any, and flash the truck

For tuning that is already on the programmer, you can switch tunes without returning to stock.

As always ensure yer battery is healthy, and that all extraneous electrical loads are 'off', to maximize the chances of a good non-corrupted flash. (Hook up a battery maintainer during the flash process)

good luck
MGD

Is it required? No.

Is it a good idea to do so for the reasons MGD listed? Yes.

That being said, I dont go back to stock when I swap tunes but I also swap tunes like it's my job.... :-)

Great point MGD!

I always go straight to the different tune but from now on I will go back to stock first.
