Well, Ive had surface rust on the front bumper of my truck since about 20k miles. Dealer said its normal from highway driving and they only cover rust through. Fast forward to 65k miles and a few years later; now it looks like complete trash. Pricing out sanding prep, repaint, and paint protective film and its nearly a mortgage payment. So Im looking into other options. I can buy a chrome bumper to replace it. Seems the chrome holds up better than our paint matched steel bumpers. Also looking into getting it professionally bedlined. Bed lining is much cheaper, not sure on durability, and unsure on looks. Has anyone on here bed lined their bumpers on a white truck? Lets hear some opinions.
Thanks,
- Ed
Had the same issue front and back on my tuxedo black 2010 F150. Replacement bumpers were indeed expensive and painting was just as much. I went with the Barricade off road bumpers, front and back, from American Trucks.
Overall I'm pretty happy with them. The front bumper is heavy enough that it ships via freight, though, and a pain the butt actually get delivered. I actually had to go to the UPS warehouse and get it. Fitment was pretty straight bolt on except the proximity sensors in the back needed a bit of adjustment. If you get the front bumper with fog lights also be advised that those lights will not work off the OEM switch. You'll need to install the switch that comes with the bumper and lights.

Amazon has chrome bumpers for 2 bills...or just yank yours off, sand it down yourself and paint it or spray colored undercoating.
I got tired of seeing the chips in the paint on my 13' Tuxedo black F150's painted bumpers so I sprayed them with Plasti-DIp gray colored that is a close match to the FX4 gray plastic fender flares.
Been that way for over 4 years now with no chips. The stones bounce off the plasti-dip I guess and multiple car washes have no effect on the coating either.

I'm thinking about these exact bumpers, esp the rear. How did you have to adjust the sensors? Why don't the fogs work, couldn't you just extend wires or whatever to hook up to the factory wires? How do they seem to hold up? It seems like these could also get chipped and start rusting at some point.
Well, after much debate and some phone calls Im going to sand and prime the front and rear oem bumpers and drop them off for professional bed lining. Got a good deal through a local vendor. If it doesnt come out how I like it Ill prob just get some aftermarket replacements.
I have a 2013 since new and I Line-X'd mine about 4 years ago. Was getting the chips in the painted bumper and I knew it was going to get worse with the miles I put on.

Yes, I travel a lot of Interstates, and a lot of miles. The plastic body painted trim piece just above the bumper was getting chipped up pretty bad as well, just like the bumper. It's a work truck so I wasn't overly concerned on the aesthetics. And, for some reason, the bug deflector also reduces chips on the front and top of the hood. Also, The bread loaves are channel steel, not the stock plastic pieces.
