I really don't think there is a harness change for the external sync microphone. I bet they just splice the wires into the microphone wires going to the mirror. Does the headliner mic have a connector on it?
I would look back in this thread and find the mirror connector pin out. Find out which wires are for the microphone and then just splice into those for your headliner mic. If you have a mirror without the microphone they will be no connects at the mirror anyway. IF you DID buy a mirror with the sync, go to the Ford sync website. They had a SYNC software update that you can download that may fix problems they needed the external microphone for in the first place and you may be able to just use the mirror's mic going forward (and just leave the headliner mic to fill the hole.)

Having said that, those that have mirrors without sync, make sure you get the correct harness as the mirror connector pin-out may change (I don't know that for sure) My first mirror I mistakenly bought did not have sync but I don't remember counting how many pins its connector had.

I will look at the old harness to see how it was wired up. I would like to know those of you that have had the microphone fixed by the dealer and added, how did they wire it up?

About splicing into the harness. Wouldn't that leave it with two microphones, one in the headliner and one in the mirror? Wonder if one would impede on the other.

Yes, my headliner mic does have a connection that seperated it from the old harness.

Ok, to follow up on this, I had a factory microphone installed in the headliner. I put in a new headliner harness that I purchased from Tasca that did not have the connection for the headliner microphone. My concern over having this put back to factory is that some have problems in the rain talking with sync. I just also wanted everything functional.

So, I removed the drivers side sun visor and popped down the sunglass holder/ overhead light. Unplugged it and fished out the the wires for the the microphone that leads to the rearview mirror. There are three wires that go from the back of the headliner up to the front. The are yellow with green stripe, blue with white stripe and an uncovered silver wire (multi-stranded). I cut off the connection to my old headliner harness and soldered the three wires into the respective colored wires. This bundle, you will find has a black rubber sheathing you have to cut off and then has a silver tinfoil shielding. I tested the headliner mic with the rearview mirror unplugged and with it plugged back in again.

I found that the headliner mic allowed me to speak softly and sync responded. I did have to elevate my voice with just the rearview mirror. I wrapped the wires in electrical tape and pushed them back into the headliner. No need to really take down the headliner if you are doing this after the fact, just go through the sunglass area. Those of you that have yet to do this, make sure you order a harness that has the microphone connection on it or perform the procedure I just described. Early 2010s didn't have the headliner mic and I believe the later ones do.

My new mirror will not have Sync as it is in my headliner so hopefully I get the correct harness, if not I will have to send it back and I am on a tight time-frame due to different vendors installing different parts. Mirror/headliner harness(dealer under warranty-new headliner)/+/- video cables front to rear with Rear Bumper Sensor Install.

If you have a minute could you provide the part number for the harness that you installed from Tasca? I appreciate it.

Tasca sent this email to me to fit mine.

AL3Z14335JXA shows that it would be the correct part number as you show non power slider, compass and variable wipers. this is the main body harness for the cab of the truck.

I do not have sync but there is a three wire plug about the same location as the mic would be.

I then checked through fordparts.com (only partial numbers shown on website and dealer confirmed it shoud be the correct one) and had it shipped free to a dealer near me

Default Help !!

Folks, this is a really crappy way to introduce yourself, but I need some serious help. I have searched everywhere and you guys seem to have the most knowledge on the subject. I bought one of these cameras to fit on my 08 Edge. The Big problem is the wiring. I have a connector that doesn't match the 6 pin I see here. I have an 8 pin ( with six wires in it ). Two wires are plain white, two are plain black, one is red and the other is blue. I can get you the part numbers if you need them, but so far they haven't helped a whole lot in Google.

Any help greatly appreciated,
Derek

I ordered AL3Z14335JVA for a 2010 SuperCrew with Sync, but in headliner and power sliding rear window. No sunroof. Hope to get it tomorrow have everything operational in a week or two. Waiting for the dealer to get my new headliner in that is being replaced under warranty due to a defect.

I do not have the Brown/Brown-yellow wires in my main harness so I ran them myself.

I have a question about the rear tail light harness. I assumed that the camera harness plugged into the tail light harness and used the tail light harness for the 12V power source and the Ground needed by the camera. Is this correct or am I going to need a 12V power source and ground from somewhere else? If that is the case what is the point in changing the tail light harness? Any help is appreciated.

If you did not have the brown-brown/yellow in the main harness and you ran the camera wires up to the headliner than you will need power and ground wires ran. I used the ground wire from the trailer hitch and i put the relay and fuse in for the 7 pin trailer plug and took the 12 volt for power from that. If you run your own wires for the camera than there is no reason to change out the rear harness. I sold my camera rear harness on ebay. I bought the camera plug from mauser. had to buy 5 because there is a $20.00 minimum order. Have 4 camera plugs and pins laying in a drawer doing nothing. Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for your reply. This is what I plan on doing. I guess adding the rear Camera harness makes taking the tail gate off easier since it is a quick release plug but that hardly makes it worth the purchase since you can do it yourself with connectors
