Happy medium for tires?

Hey guys, im looking into getting new tires in the near future, but wanna know what to look for. Right now im running 265/70/17 Maxxis Bighorns with my 2000 4.6. I don't really like the tires, but I got em for free. I want a tire with a less aggressive AT tread. Id like to go a bit bigger (maybe 285/70/17), but dont wanna drain my fuel mileage. What do y'all think?

I'm running 275/55/20 Cooper Discoverer AT3's, Ive had them for about 10K now and they have got me through everything out camping and sledding. They have an aggressive look. Not a lot of road noise and my fuel milage is good too.

Huh. Alrighty. I think that comes out a little bit bigger than my tires. What motor do you have?

Also, I was looking at the general grabber at2s. Anyone know anything about em?

Cooper AT/3 and General AT2 are both good tires. Discount tire Cooper ATP is pretty much the same as the AT/3.

And what do yall think ill lose moving up to 285/70/17. I wanna say the stock tires are like 255/70/16.

Also, will I have a problem with the 285s rubbing?

mpg wise there are so many factors that contribute. Tire weight, rolling resistance, pressure etc. Don't forget, you will need to get your speedometer re-calibrated for the change in tire diameter.
Rubbing wise read the following thread. At the very end of the first post is a link to some data that is pretty handy.

Yeah. Ive noticed the bighorns are extremely heavy. Most of the ATs I've been looking at in 285 are at least 6 pounds lighter. And I always ride at recommend PSI and what not, but I know there's more then that.

And thank you. I'll check it out.

Also, my dad knows a guy who gives us a slight break on nitto terra grapplers. Are those pretty good all around tires?

nitto makes great tires. another suggestion is the cooper st maxx, i run these in a 285 70 17 and am happy with them, look them up.
