Default offset vs backspacing

What is the difference in offset vs backspacing? Are they the same? just one in mm and other in inches?

I have seen wheels listed with just offset, I have seen listed as 0 offset, 5" backspace.

I'm totally confused and can't find the answer... Help...

Thanks

backspace is the distances in inches from the rear of the wheel to the mounting pad of the wheel. The offset is the distance in mm from the center of the wheel to the mounting pad. If the mounting pad is closer to the outside of the vehicle it is a positive offset, while if the mounting pad is on the half closer to the inside it would be a negative offset.

On the backspace, do you mean from the inside of the wheel to the mounting plate?
