Default Offset help needed...math is hurting my brain

Hey guys. I'm hoping somebody here is an engineer and can explain this too me. I've searched but can't find a definitive answer. I've also check at custom wheel offsets but I can't find a consistent answer there either. I have a 2013 Screw XLT. I have a 2.5" BDS level kit. I'm getting ready to add new wheels and tires but I can't figure out how far the wheels/tires will stick out past my fender and how much trimming I will have to do. I'm going to be running 305/55/20's. Is there going to be a different between a 20x9 wheel with a +1 offset and a 20x10 wheel with a -12 offset in terms of distance the wheel and tire sticks out from the fender? Pics are also welcome. Thanks for help guys!

I'm an engineer, but I've been wrong before, so I'll just leave you with this:
http://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

enter your old & new specs, and you can visually see the difference it makes!

Well, it can be confusing for sure. In this situation, with that same tire mounted on either wheel, the tire will stick out 13 mm more from the fender if you use the 20x10 with the -12 mm offset. Rim width does not enter into the calculation, you only need to consider the offset. Definitely makes for a more aggressive look.

That is a sweet calculator tool! Somebody should sticky that. It would help a lot of people. Thank you!

I might be a little late but a 20 x 10 with -12 offset will stick out much more than a 20x9 with +1 offset. 20 x 10 with -12 will need significant trimming, but I've seen it done on here. Type of tire will play a big roll in trimming. Mud terrains are much more aggressive and tend to have more scrub when compared to the same size tire but in an all terrain tread.

I'm running BDS level on my 2014 4x4 platinum. I have 20x9 with 0 offset. 295/55/20 toyo MT tires. Mine only rub on the fender flare at the bottom rear of the wheel well. If i trim 1" off it would fix it. I have pics of my set up just haven't loaded them online yet.

If your factor wheels are a +44 offset and you go with a -12 offset, thats a difference of 56 mm. 56mm=2-3/8" So a -12 will stick out approximately
2-3/8 " farther than your factory rims. Hope that helps!

This only holds true if both wheels being compared are the same width. I don't know what the factory wheels are but I know they aren't 10".

I know when I was considering a 20x10 -12 offset, I found a ton of pics just by Google. In my opinion it was too aggressive for just having a level kit. But we are each entitled to our opinion. I'll load one of my side shots of my set up and post in here shortly.

Yeah, KLG is way off saying width doesn't have anything to do with stance. Unless that was JUST about the offset.

Thanks! Can you give me a measurement on how far your tires stick out from your fenders?
