Choosing a tweener Tire

Choosing a tweener Tire
Hello all...new owner here,2005 Lariat, SCC 4x4 etc.
I need new tires, the old owner put all of 43K on the truck it did some major sitting around in the California heat and sunshine, damn shame, the tread on the Wranglers he has on it ( original model size etc.) are cracked big time.
I wont be using it very much either, 2 major road trips via highway ( approx 1500 total miles) and I go up to the mountains twice a year (week a visit, maybe 100 miles in that terrain), no major off-roading, just trails, dirt , shale, some gravel....(mud periodically).
So, yea, I need a major highway tire with some trail credibility. Because the truck came totally loaded, this (and figuring out how to get Bluetooth in it is NOT a MP3 stereo compatible) is the only upgrades I am going to undertake this year, so cost it not an issue...any suggestions would be appreciated!

Sounds to me like you don't need to worry about a mileage tire, as with the amount of miles you're gonna put on it, it will age out long before it wears out.
Since your emphasis is on road/highway manners first, and off-road capability last, I'd look at something like the NItto Dura Grappler Highway tire:
https://www.nittotire.com/light-truc...ht-truck-tire/
Everybody makes a highway-emphasized 'all' terrain like these, so if you have a particular brand you like, you'll likely find they have the same kind of tire

I just mentioned Nitto because I've used their Terra Grap's on my trucks since I dunno...2005(?), and found them to have good grip. quiet ride, and last 50-60kmi.
In other words, I like Nitto.
Don't know what size you're looking for, but as I said, my main point was more that type of tire. BFG makes a 'mild'(er) AT as well, but so do a lot of other manufacturers.
Keep in my too, with the low mileage you plan on putting on the truck, you can get away with a cushier tire that may not last as long, but will offer a softer ride.

Carl11, just what size you need? The Dura Grappler is in the listed stock size 265-60-18 and 275-65-18. KM

I ran the Nitto Dura Grappler E's on my Dodge Cummins. Even with 400hp and 800tq they wore like iron. Smooth, quiet and took less weight to balance than these POS Goodyear P metric tires. Much better than the Michelin LTX A/S that came with the truck.
Might want to take a look at the new Hankook Dynapro AT2. It's a very mild AT tire that's reasonably priced.

Same thoughts on Terra Grappler G2"s, wanted a lighter tire so went with 265-70-17 115T. Very happy with them! Would need to grosley overload my truck to exceed their load limits.

I was reading checking and then I saw another Lariat 2008 he had Goodrich All Terr. T/A KO2's...I like the beefy look, raised white lettering, more off road than I need but the reviews looked pretty good and, I like the look....
