Default What did I do wrong?

Installed my new amp and sub and I’m getting music a.k.a. vocals out of the sub offer not just bass.

I ended up splicing into the B pillar using the rear speakers as the input. I then went from speaker wire to RCA and then plugged it into the amp.

Sounds like you didn't set the low pass on the amp. It should generally be set around 80hz

What year truck are we talking about????? In my 2013 it's a well known fact the rear speaker signal is not as strong as the fronts for some weird reason. Cured that by trashing the oem system in favor of Alpine.

The rear speaker channels are high passed at 70hz from the factory. This cannot be defeated. Subwoofers are always low passed below 70hz. The subwoofer low pass filter should always be 1/2 octave below the high pass crossover point of your midbass. Example, if your midbass is high passed at 80hz you should set the low pass on the subwoofer to 60hz. I wouldn't recommend using the rear speakers for input or you will get very little output below 70hz. The front channels are full frequency. The rears are for fill only.

So should I tap into the fronts instead? Will that get me what I want? I’m trying to find an alternative vs buying a $50 wiring harness, but if that is the best thing to do then I’ll have to do it.

I'm big on keeping the factory wiring untouched so I would grab the for-11ck harness. You won't have to go searching through the oem harness the find the correct wires. You'll just plug the harness in and run front channel high level to your amp. Done. But, yes, taping the fronts will be the correct course of action.
