Default Got some subs!

I got a sub box free from a friend, it has 3 12" subs in it and it has a 1800w amp but he said it might be broken. Since I have no idea about stereos were do I start?? I was going to make a box in the backseat in the center to hold the 3 speakers, I know that has to be air tight? Any help thanks!

It doesn't have to be air tight necessarily. It depends on what the subs call for and what makes them sound better.

What subs, what amp?

3 12" subs! wow thats gonna make some BIG thumpin!!!! i had 2 12" with an 800 watt amp and thoes were loud!

Any way....your box depends on how you want your bass to sound, an air tight box gives you tight, smooth bass. A non-air tight box (ported box) gives you stronger and a bit longer bass.

First i would test the amp cause with out it you'll have...well, nothing!

Did your friend give you all the wires with it too?

Na, all he had was the box,I got some pics I will post up. The box was like $500 a few years ago, he had it in a Grade Marque. Would the stock truck speakers be ok to use for now with the subs? How do I test the amp out?

I have been looking at head units, what features should I be looking for when picking the head unit out? Thanks for the help

not a bad looking box, i could see that it was expensive back in the day!

to test the amp just put some power on it (battery should work) and theres usually a light on the amp somewhere that comes on, or you can see if you get any voltage.

If your getting a new head unit look for one with an amp/sub output on it, most have them now days. since your friend didnt give you any wires you'll need to pick up a subwoofer wiring kit. This kit has the right guage wires you will need.
