A DSP will make a huge difference in your audio quality if you know how to tune it, which is quite the learning process of doing it right, not just randomly adjusting the EQ like most people do.

Everyone has different tastes when it comes to how they like to hear their music. Having a DSP allows you to tune the speakers to exactly how you like it. My settings will not please everyone and same with yours. Having the ability to fine-tune it to your personal preference is what makes the DSP valuable.

Ok so I have been out of the car audio game for awhile as most of my vehicles came stock with good systems the past 5 years. I just bought a 2018 SCrew STX and the stock speakers are terrible and I just cant do it anymore. So I'm putting off wheels and a leveling kit to do the speakers first. At this time I don't want to do subs, however I will do some small ones down the road. I have read this thread multiple times and I just have a couple of questions. From reading this I decided to save the money and not replace the back speakers.
I do not know the difference between 3 or 5 way speakers to be honest. But I want to replace the front 6x9's and the tweeters up top too. Trying to decide between buying just 3 or 5 way speakers and separate tweeters or just buying a component set. I would imagine the component would sound better just because technically they would be paired. Again I do not know that for sure. I know staying with the same brand is ideal and I have always liked Kenwood products back when. But I am open to anything that would be considered a budget friendly one as I do not want to burn up all of my wheels money. Recommendations? I do like the price of the 5 way Pioneers in the OP.
Also do I need to run the RCA cables, if so what exactly is the benefit? I'm guessing just less interference?
Next question, Do I really need a amp for the speakers, I realize this would give me the most out of my speakers, but has anyone just done speakers as this is what I have always done in the past and enjoyed them that way. If I did get a amp I was looking at the SKAR LP-80.4 as it is an A/B which I prefer for the speakers but at the same time I'm doing the 4 channel so I can power the small subs later off of it as well. (I'll probably run 2-8' subs)

Lots of questions haha. OK so let's try to explain my madness and why I did what I did. The only difference between a 3 way and 5 way are the number of tiny speakers in the coax unit. Lots of people will argue this topic all day long on 6.5 vs 6 x 9. After testing many many speakers in multiple configurations I personally like having more speakers everywhere. That means I prefer using coax speakers. For my build, I used both coax and the tweeters from my component 6.5 set for the front. I have the exact same truck as you. I would highly recommend getting the $30 OBD2 reader and using forescan tool to get a clean signal if running amps. I tried running the door speakers without an amp and it was fine but not great. After installing my amps the system sounded incredible.

Here are a few photos of the amps I'm using. I mounted them on a tiny shelf that sits behind the rear seats.
This is the 1000 watt sub amp.
My simple amp shelf.
This is the door speaker amp 100 watts RMS x 4. The other one is for my buddies truck.
Mounted behind the rear seats above the two floor bolts.

It depends on your budget. I would install some high efficiency coax in the doors (you can use speaker wire adapters so they will be plug n play) and leave the factory tweeters connected. No amp. When you can add a sub. You will be happy. It is a good place to start and you can add an amp to the door speakers later if you think they still need it. Stay away from the hype of 3 way,,4 way or 5 way
Ya i'm thinking of just doing the speakers for now and see what they sound like by themselves first. If I still want more i'll do an amp and go from there.

However i I am going to go ahead and run a amp for my new speakers I picked up
Kenwood 6x9’s 125RMS (KFC-6995PS)
kenwood 1” Tweeters 40RMS (KFC-ST01)
what would be a good amp to run those 4 speakers?
Could I crossover the tweeters and run a 4 channel so if I get rear speakers down the road I could just add them that way?

I answered your speaker selection question in your other thread.....You are putting too much thought into this setup. Use the factory power and add the sub. You will be pleasantly surprised.
