Granted, they were handled more power being 2 ohm speakers, but they also passed more background noise.
the ohms of a speaker do not determine how much power it can handle. a lower final load on an amp will cause the amp to produce more power.

i am running a pair of jbl 8s in my scab in an enclosure that fits under the driver's side of the rear seat. they require 0.35cf each. sadly they no longer produce this particular speaker (GTO804) but they are available on places like ebay still. sick little subs that have some amazing output.
