You don't need an empty fuse slot. Look for the radio fuse and use it. Any other fuse that is powered when the ignition is on.

Don't use the power convertor (power inverter) just use the regular cigar lighter which is 12v. I didn't cut any wires, I just used a scotch lock to tap into the power wire.
