2012 FX2 Stereo upgrade (audio guys, come on in)
I recently built and carpeted a custom box for my 12 FX2 supercrew. I have a JL 10w3v3 powered by a JL 500/1 amp. Hooked everything up, I got the I was looking for (nothing earth shattering, just a clean nice thump). But i'm left with the horrid factory speakers. At this time, I really don't want to run a amp to the door speakers so i'm looking into replacing the fronts with these....

and the rears with these....
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113KFC6...C-C6894PS.html
of course, I wouldn't buy from crutchfield, wayy to over priced. So if I still have the stock powering these speakers, would there be any sound difference? If I can get better mid's/high's out of these as compared to stock speakers then thats what I will get. I don't need any bass out of the factory speakers. So question for the guys thats replaced the factory speakers, did your mids/highs get any clearer? In all of my previous cars, i've powered speakers with a amp, but I really don't want to on this if I can get some decent sound without having too(on a budget and wanting to keep SYNC). I'm not looking to enter any competitions, just like to have a nice little stereo in my truck. Thanks for your help.

I replaced my fronts with Polk DB571's and the tweeters (dash) with Polk db1001's . I also added a Sound Ordnance B-8PT sub. I did NOT add an amp to the fronts or backs, and I ended up with a nice clean sounding system, with a decent bottom end, and sparkling highs. Pretty pleased with the improvement. I do plan on replacing the rears also with the DB571's, just to keep things consistent.
Oh, I also treated the doors with RAAMAT stuff.
I also paid much attention to the sensitivity of the speakers I chose. You don't want to over tax the poor little factory head unit.

It will sound better than stock, but add a Alpine KTP-445U and they'll really sing. Simple amp to install.
I have Boston Ac. SR80's in all 4,

with the alpine and it can get loader than I could stand.

How is the quality of sound with the KTP and the Bostons? Loud is great but if it sounds muddy and distorted then I will just stick with my factory speakers because they are great and being loud and muddy. I am curious as I was looking at adding the KTP and some speakers so I could get a little more clarity.

ive used the KTP with an entry level alpine and it sounded great. packs enough power to make anything sound a little better.
for the money you are looking to spend I would go with this setup....
JBL MS-62C - components (front)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...BL-MS-62C.html
The JBL component system is getting AWESOME reviews at most of the car audio forums that I frequent. great SQ, power handling and they are inexpensive. JBL really hit it out of the park with this setup. installed a set of these in a friends escape and they sound awesome on about 50w....even better with more power.
JBL P8662 6x8 (rear)
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...JBL-P8662.html
5X7/6X8 to 6.5" speaker adapter (front)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-F150-Sp...-/330577435081
if you are handy with wood or ABS plastic...you could make your own adapters...but for $10 shipped....why would you?

thanks for the help guys! bigness, I like those speakers. I haven't ordered any yet, but i'm going to do some research on them. i've always had good luck with JBL.
future question, is it possible to hook up a 4 channel amp and still have SYNC? I'm not a big audio guru, I just know how to do the basic's. but now that I have a 1 channel amp hooked up, I could just use the RCA outputs on that and connect them to a 4 channel and it should work...right?

@bigness
How / where are people mounting the tweeters if we do not have original manufactures holes? I have a 2010 xlt super cab with no tweeter holes.
How would those jbl 6x8s sound all around? I recently installed 4 infinity reference 6832s but had 1 that's been distorted / crackling since install and crutchfield has discontinued them, so I'll have to replace at least 1 pair with something else, but I like to keep brand uniformity
