Default New from Virginia

Hello all. I am a newb to the forum thing. This weekend I am purchasing a 2004 F150 XLT 4X4 5.4L 112,000 miles. It has been owned by a member of my family for the past 6 years. It has been driven very little in that time. The body is in great shape. The engine seems to run great. No noise from the phasers or or VCT's.

It does have a issue that I am torn over. It will drain the battery within 5 days if not started. They had it to the mechanic recently and they disconnected the aftermarket back up camera. Thought was maybe the camera is causing a parasitic drain. Also It has a viper alarm system. I will remove that as well if the camera does not solve the issue.

I know where it was purchased new and had most of the 90,000 miles serviced at so I will try and get the service records or a least they can tell me what all has been repaired on the truck.

What type brand and weight of oil should be used?
What else should I look at on this vehicle?

I am a little nervous. I am paying 6K for the truck.

You thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Welcome Steele, most 5.4 3V owners run 5W-20 motorcraft synthetic blend oil and a motorcraft oil filter that can be bought at Walmart. Once you obtain the maint. records we can look at what needs to be serviced. where you at in Va. ?

Hey Techrep. Thanks for responding. I am in Bristow Va. You? I am nervous about the truck, but I understand most people only post the bad things that happen with the vehicle they have not the good things. I just want to know what I am getting into here.

I am also looking at new tires for it. Will a 265/65/17 work well on this truck? Original tires I believe they are 235/75/17's.....
