Default Hello from Upstate NY

Hello, I'm Dave.

I purchased a used 2016 F150 Lariat last week. I have always lived in the Northeast US and have watched every vehicle I have ever had get the rust disease. They just flake away. The salt, and now saline solution, are brutal but necessary here. I thought the aluminum F150 might fare better. In looking at the vehicles history, it is well traveled. It was made in Kansas City, was sold in Canada as a one year lease vehicle and now has come to it's new home in Upstate NY. This vehicle is the one I put the most planning and research into. I thought I wanted a Platinum, but I decided on the Lariat. It is a bit more understated, which I prefer.

About the truck. It has the 3.5l turbo, blue jeans metallic, black leather, moonroof, 36 gallon tank, 5.5' bed, tow package and navigation. I like the led lights. I plan to make all the lights led. So far as I can tell that would be the license plate lights and the fog lights. I don't drive a lot at night, but when I do, I want it to be bright. I drive to camp in the Adirondacks and will value the extra light. The spotlights on the mirror will be a great help when getting to camp at night.

I put an OEM bed linder on top of the factory spray in liner. I plan to top it off with the Peragon tonneau top.

I had occasion to compare mine to a 2016 F150 Platinum in the work parking lot. Except for the technology package, which he had, mine had everything else seemingly. I even liked my rims better than his. Mine has Hancook tires.

A bit about me. I like old trucks. My previous truck was a 2003 Dodge 1500. It was a similar blue, but two tone. I found it hard to mount a CB radio in, but did. I had a soft tonneau on that one. It had the 4.7l v8. It got low teens mostly, getting mid teens for mileage on the trip to camp and back. I retired ten years ago, worked part time, and went back to work full time last year. I still kept the part time job. I'm trying to kill time waiting for the fiance to retire. We will get a place closer to camp. I'd like to raise a garden, chickens and as much cane as possible before I can't. The F150 is part of that plan.

As for the CB, I have enjoyed a CB in my vehicle since the 80's. I am wondering how and where one will go on this aluminum body. I don't like to drill holes.

I hope to get to camp soon. I want to kick the turbos and see what they will do. I'm gaining plenty of knowledge here. Thank you all for sharing it.

It isn't?

Coulda fooled me. I remember growing up shoveling lots of snow in Schenectady.

Welcome! Sounds like you have found a truck that fits your needs well and should continue to for quite some time. If you have any questions, especially regarding the powertrain feel free to ask without any hesitation.

The joke is because I'm from Watertown, NY.

Welcome to the F-150 boards, glad to have you join us.

Any fun performance mods planned for the truck? :-)
