Default Headed to Alaska!

Hello and thanks to all that share their experiences. I just picked up a 2016 F150 super crew with the 3.5 ecoboost for a people hauler and big boat mover. This was a family members truck and has 130K on it with extensive maintenance records and never any major problems. The only downside to this truck is the giant sunroof going to a rain forrest! Since this truck will be headed to Alaska in the next few months what are your suggestions on preventative maintenance and more importantly what is a list of parts I should have on hand. It will be on a large island and parts and service are difficult to obtain. Thanks everyone!

I have a 2018 with the same big pano roof and I have had zero issues with it!

I keep it clean and lubricated which takes a few minutes every month or so when cleaning.

Rule #1 for all sunroofs...Keep the contact point between the glass panel's rubber seal and the truck body clean and lubricated.
I use silicone spray on a rag and I wipe the rubber seal and wipe all around the the opening of the body.
This makes sure the rubber doesn't dry out but more importantly it prevents the seal from becoming adhered to the body.
Generally the complaints are when someone opens their sunroof and because it is stuck to the body... the motor keeps pulling and rips everything apart.

Rule #2 is I also spray the internal moving parts with silicone spray also regularly.

Is there a particular brand you use? I tend to over think these things and Krytox and $40 from Ford seems to keep coming up.

Krytox is what I think Ford recommends but its insanely expensive.
I use whatever silicone spray I find at the auto store.

What tires and condition are they in? Do you have a full size spare? I know a guy that made a trip to Alaska a couple of years ago in a Colorado with a diesel engine. Roads are rough up there from his point of view. A few extra air filters and engine oil & filters. I'd make sure the other oil changes and the spark plugs are not anywhere close to being done.

On your trip up, carry a couple of extra cans of gas. I have traveled the ALCAN a few times and I have found that the gas stations listed in the Milepost was closed. I carried 2 - 5gl cans, just in case.

Good Luck.
