Hello!
Not new to the forum, but haven't posted since 2011. My then new 2011 SuperCab was towing a travel trailer and being a beast! I look out the window and see it still in the driveway. 3 sets of tires, spark plugs, brakes, cam phasers, a few sensors and a blinking radio that no longer works. But it has "dealer plates" on it versus my plates. With 154,000 miles on it, I decided to trade it in for a different F150. I ended up with a CPO 2020 F150. My original phone call to this dealer was on a new 2024 that checked all my boxes except the 40/20/40 bench seat that I wanted. Turned out the new truck was sold. I told the salesman what I was looking for and reluctantly gave my phone number. About an hour later, he called me back and said he had a beautiful CPO F150 that checked off all the desires of a different truck and invited me to drive over and take it for a test drive.
A day later I went there (75 miles one way) and the truck did not disappoint. Is it new? No. Is it in immaculate shape? Yes. The only issue I found was a rock chip in the windshield that had been repaired and was starting to spider. They put a lot of work into preparing it for sale. Heck, even the engine was steam cleaned. New tires, new battery and now new windshield. Price wise, I got it for less than what others in similar condition are selling for. I pick it up Monday or Tuesday.
It has the 3.5L Turbo engine. I went with a super crew versus my 2011 with a super cab. The new truck has the 302A package on it. I so wanted heated seats on a 40/20/40 front seat. I got a Berndoodle who loves laying down next to me when we go for a ride. Could have bought many trucks with a console, but where would my girl lay? Okay, call me a crazy dog guy, but most days, I would rather talk to the dog than a lot of the people I know.
The upgrade is very noticeable. The new truck rides smoother, is quieter, and hopefully it will be a good truck for the next 10 years. It is good to be back here. Hope the deal is a good one.
Hopefully your 20 is a late year build, or the cam phasers all ready failed and were replaced with the new design. Ask your dealer for a copy of the Oasis report on the truck it will show all warranty work ford ever did not the truck since new. The redesigned cam phasers for the 3.5L EcoBoost engine in the F-150, identified by the "ML3Z" part number prefix, were introduced in the fall of 2020.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Issue:
The 3.5L EcoBoost engine in the F-150 (and related models like the Expedition/Navigator) experienced cam phaser issues, leading to rattles and other problems.
Initial Repairs:
Initial repairs often involved replacing the original cam phasers, but the issue persisted.
Redesigned Phaser:
Ford ultimately introduced redesigned cam phasers in the fall of 2020, with the new parts identified by the "ML3Z" part number prefix.
2021 model year part number
The updated phaser part numbers use ML3Z -A prefix and suffix which is a 2021 model year part number
Recalls and TSBs:
Ford issued recalls and Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) to address the cam phaser issue, with the TSB cutoff being November 19th, 2020.
Affected Vehicles:
The affected vehicles include the 2017-2020 F150 and 2018-2020 Expedition/Navigator.

Yours would have been built before the CDF drum redesign for the 10 spd tranny. Again an oasis report would show repairs to the tranny. While Ford has addressed some issues with the 10-speed transmission (10R80) through various updates and recalls, it's important to note that the problems haven't been fully resolved, and some issues persist. Ford fixed the CDF drum issue in production starting in August 2022, but older models may still be prone to problems.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Initial Problems:
The 10R80 transmission, introduced in 2017, has faced issues including erratic shifting, slipping, and CDF drum failures.
Ford's Response:
Ford has responded with numerous technical service bulletins, recalls, and software updates to address these issues.
CDF Drum Fix:
Ford fixed the CDF drum issue in production starting in August 2022, meaning that most 2023 and later models are less likely to have this problem.
Ongoing Issues:
Despite these efforts, some drivers continue to report problems with the transmission, including jerking, clunking, and hunting for gears, even after repairs and updates.
Legal Action:
The ongoing issues have led to lawsuits against Ford, highlighting the persistent nature of the problems.
Models Affected:
The 10R80 transmission is used in several Ford vehicles, including the F-150, Mustang, Explorer, Bronco, and Lincoln Aviator.
Recall:
Ford recalled more than 47,000 trucks with 2021 Ford F150 transmission problems, all with 10R80 (10-speed automatic) transmissions.
I have had no issues with my 2018 I bought other than the failed check valve on the IWE vacuum locking front hubs, which I did not know were grinding due to bad hearing so that ended up with new front drive hubs and IWE replacement. So I am waiting for the day my CDF drum fails and my cam phasers fail. I do not have a detailed Oasis report on my truck as the dealer I asked said there is no report on the truck which would mean it never had warranty service but I know that is not true, My truck came reimported from Canada. I am stuck with the drippy plastic oil pan also.
Congrats on the new truck! Let's see some pics of it.
Hello! Finally picked up my “new to me” F150 on Wednesday afternoon. Beautiful truck thus far. Drove it the 70 miles home without issue. Quite a difference from the 2011 that I traded in. I think the Super Crew vs the Super Cab will be a good upgrade, although a trade off with the bed being shorter. Seeing how it’s CPO, I have some questions regarding purchasing the extended warranty. I think I’ll make that a post on its own. 2020 F150 XLT 2011 F150 XLT
I personally only considered a 6.5 box when I bought mine, they are harder to find in city dealerships, but farming community dealerships have more of them.

Congrats on the new truck!
The old cast off truck is almost the same as mine, but fancier. Mine is a 2012 Supercab XL 3.7 engine. Not familiar with the term COPA?
