gauge weirdness
have a 2008 f 150 4.6 70k miles. original battery lasted nearly 7 years and was replaced with identical from ford dealer 2 years ago. 2 weeks ago went to crank and got nothing. put on fast 12v charge for 30 min, then started and it has fired ever since, but with a strange symptom. when i start it, the gauges all flatline and tach and speedo bounce at 0 for several seconds and them come to life and read normally. anybody out there ever have an issue like this or any idea where to start? cable connections are all clean and tight and voltmeter reads as it has since new/ no fuses blown/ no codes thrown

No response from anyone so I continued to chase it down myself. Did not consider battery because it was less than two years old and started and functioned normally, but a load test showed battery at rest only had 10.5 volts. When load was applied it fell to barely less than 10 volts, which was enough to engage the starter. Once running the alternator took over and excited the gauges. Cluster was seeing low voltage. Hope this helps someone else with a similar issue. Good day to all.

thats okay we all were at one point and time, wasn't trying to sound like an as*, i was just trying to help point you in the right direction to get more eyes on your post. but you figured it out yourself which is more than some of us could say. there have been many times i couldn't figure something out and someone with experience chimed in and pointed me to the right direction to get it fixed. sorry if i came across gruff.
