Default First time Ford and Pickup owner

Hey everyone, I bought my first truck, and it's an f150. 3 weeks in and I love it. We're mid road trip across 4 states towing a pop up trailer now without any issues.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'm curious about what my vehicle can tow, as we're looking to upgrade our trailer. I have a f150 xlt, 5L v8 engine, but there's no brake controller installed, and I'm guessing no tow package. I've seen that the 5L has the extra transmission cooler though, I have yet to verify.

Anyone with a similar truck have any helpful towing insights?

Looking guard to looking through this forum.

Do you have the trailer backup **** on the dash? If you do, you have a tow package. What is tour payload? That is listed on your door jamb sticker.

I do have the backup cam, also verified that I have the additional transmission cooler.

GVWR is 6800lbs, rear GAWR is 3800 lbs, front GAWR is 3225 lbs. I bought it used so don't know much about it.

If you have a factory installed hitch, but no brake controller, you have towing package 53B. Ford says your 5.0 can tow 7,000 lbs with that.

Just to clarify...you do NOT have the Pre Trailer Assist, correct? You DO have a receiver hitch or are you towing your camper with the bumper? Did you find the payload sticker in your door jamb? It'll show between 1200 and 3700 pounds payload for example. It will look like this pic:

The **** I’m talking about would be labeled “trailer backup” or “pro trailer”. This would mean you have a tow package. Mine came with the tow package but no brake controller that I had added.

No trailer *****, only the rear wheel differential lock on/off ****. Total cargo load is also 1990 lbs. I do have a tow/haul mode with a sport mode toggle, and I'm towing from a hitch, not the bumper.

You all are very helpful already. Thank you!
