Default First Post, Wrecked FX4

Hello from Huntsville, AL!

I've been looking at the site since I bought my FX4 back in October, but I'm just now posting; I wish it were a happier occasion though. Driving home from work last week a "nice young lady" decided she had no need to stop while I was sitting at a red light and proceeded to hit me at about 50 MPH without even touching her brakes. Estimate for damage is at about $15,500 which includes a new frame, box, tailgate, bumper, cab corners, and essentially all the *** end parts. I had hoped for a total loss but of course the insurance company preferred to fix it, repairs should start on Monday. As soon as it's done I'll be looking to trade in on a 2013.

Ouch! That sucks. Looks like it ****ed up your frame pretty bad. Did you have a hitch in at the time? I'd be looking to trade it in as well as soon as I got it back. Anything involving frame or suspension components will never be the same. Lots of issues may arise in the future as well.

WTF happened to your steering wheel??

I did not have a hitch in.

I saw the lady hauling *** and had a split second to grab on to the wheel and hold on. The impact plus my death grip caused the wheel to bend forward

Wow. First thing is how are you doing? Your health and well being after the accident is what's important. Yes it did a lot of damage to your truck and her car, but to God be the Glory both you and the lady are living.

If she was actually going 50 mph when she hit you, I'd say the truck held up nicely. I can't believe there isn't more sheet metal damage.

The human cargo is the most important thing.

I was reading the manual on the black box and the data it holds in a wreck. Very interesting stuff, such as they can see you were on your brakes, not accelerating and so on. Also seat belt data. Not sure I like the whole idea.

Sounds like you have a good attitude, that should help you through this.

Make her insurance company give you the cash for the diminished value of your truck too. It will be worth less due to the major collision repair.

Glad UR OK. I'd take that to another repair shop for another estimate even if you have to pay towing. In this day and age with labor so high even $20K doesn't seem like enough to fix it correctly. I'm sure your insurance adjustor can arbitrate a better settlement. If nothing else go after the young lady in civil court. I hate to say that but this wasn't your fault. Good luck

Luckily the low stance of her car essentially just slid under my rear bumper and took us for a 10-15 foot ride. I'd hate to see the result if I were in a car
