Aspiring Owner
Hi All,
To echo the stereotypical poster in this section, I am a newcomer looking for some inside knowledge. If you have any tips, "wish I knew...", knowledge on common issues, suggestions for which factory manual, type info, please reply with it! This will be the first new vehicle I'm looking to purchase and also first truck so even if its just relevant to buying and maintaining a vehicle well, feel free to add your $0.02.
How I'll use it:
A bit of a road queen, but the reason I'm going for a truck is for road trips to go on unimproved roads (approaches to climbing, hiking, skiing, etc) and to bring some fair size tools (air compressor, a girthy tool box, etc) around town - I'll mostly be working on cars and airplanes. Lastly, I foresee some opportunities to pull a boat, about 6000 Gross Wt, including up some rather big inclines (but it looks like I'll have plenty of room, structurally, but I want to make sure I get the power and stability too.
Truck I've Priced
F150 XLT, super crew cab, short bed
2.7L EcoBoost
10 speed auto
101A Trim (includes Class IV hitch)
FX4, 3.73 rear axle
Brush Guard (help prevent bumper damage)
Soft Bed Cover
Spray in Bed Liner (Perhaps DIY - Herculiner), or just pay someone to do it right?

As I stated in my post, I'm kind of a noob to the truck world. Any suggestions on where I could find the following info?
1) Common modifications to Late F150s (I've been through the DIY, but specifically, what are the most common things people hate-specifically XLT either 301A or 302A)
2) Front Leveling Kits/rear suspension blocks - other than clearance for bigger tires, why should I consider this, especially if it puts my CV boots at risk? I plan to use the hitch, but rarely, so wouldn't it be more worth just removing the leveling kit for the couple months in the summer to retain the more positive control when hauling then reinstalling for the other 8ish months?
3) Seen lots about the Anzo switchback headlights. Any good alternate options out there?
4) Seems like the factory up charges decently for a lot (spray bedliner, bed cover, etc). Anyone want to weigh in on the bargain them down vs just go elsewhere decision?
