Default Wax Problem

Hey yall

just bought an f150 and decided to give it a cleaning. It was used as a DD, more like a car so it was filthy but no rust or body damage and dirt comes off so...

I followed the how to detail thread except I don't have an orbital yet so I skipped that step. I used the wax mentioned there.

Everything went fine w the wax until I took it off. I have a black truck and all it did with the chicken feet sort of scratches on the hood was make them white so they are much more noticeable than before.

What can I do? What did I do wrong? Should I just take her to a hot car wash and call it lesson learned?

By the way if you know what I am talking about what causes those little chicken feet shaped scratches? They seem from something like heat not physical. Would an orbital and polishing stages take em out? I'm going to get a new hood so I'm not too worried but still..

Thanks

Yeah I should have known better than to use regular wax. I didnt know there was black wax I bet it looks great.

Question - I took teh truck and washed it because I thought it couldnt hurt. Didnt do much really. Will that wax ever come out? Do you think a black wax over it would help? Guess it cant hurt.

Oh well lesson learned fight another day.

Yah turtle wax makes a great black wax and it even works on the dark grey color too. Ive got a lot of "rocky mountain pin stripes" on my truck and the black wax works great at filling them in.

Bought and used the black box. Definitely a lot better than the white in terms of mess and flakes everywhere. Didnt fix some of the problems I thought it would but I think my expectations were too high as with anything you do for the first time haha.

I will use it again though. If it came with just a bit more of each bottle you could do it twice with one box. 2 boxes should net you 3-4 waxes.

Clay bar will remove all wax. It isn't hard to do, just use plenty of lube agent which comes in the kit (Meg).

Washing it with dishwasher detergent will strip the wax as well.

I had a black Bronco, but never again. It looks awesome for the first 5 minutes, then it's time to start cleaning again...
