I use windex, but you have to do it more than once. Keep spraying and wiping until you hear the squeak. As in "squeaky clean". No squeak, still dirty.

Newspaper and Windex works great and quick wax and a microfiber cloth work good for me too. I think the microfiber cloth is the real trick.

If it's really stuck on there, order some Safelite Glass cleaner. I save it for when Windex won't work. This stuff takes everything off, including registration stickers, so be careful.

Im a car detailer for a living at the moment ,

The best way to clean windows and windshields in particular I have found out is take a window rag, they are usually blue and lint free somewhat thin , fold this rag twice over itself use 3M window cleaner and spray the crap out of the windshield , with a different towel wipe the over spray off the dash, lay on your back in the passenger seat laying your head on/near the steering wheel and do the drivers half of the windshield do go corners with two fingers then a typical box pattern, now flip the rag to the dry side and buff in the same fashion just quicker , repeat for passenger side.

You learn some tricks in the detail shop

I've always used newspapers and Windex. Works every time it's tried.

I've always seen the newspaper bit, but always thought it to be a myth. That same ink that stains your fingers black has to leave a residue on the glass.
