Default cleaning wheels?

Okay I took my dads 2010 lariat to work the other day to clean it up and wash it good. Since hrs one of the type that think a truck is just made for work and never washes it when I got to the factory chrome wheels I sprayed everything I had and scrubbed for 30 min and nothing touched the junk on em. So what else's could I use and would a buffer wheel of some sort work better?

What kind of gunk is on the wheels? What kind of cleaner did you try? Are the wheels clear coated or polished Alum?

If its break dust build up, you will need something stronger than soap and water. In fact if its been a while since the wheels were cleaned that dust could have pit the finish of the wheels!

there are some over the counter, at your local parts store that might help. Megs wheel cleaner and Mothers wheel cleaners. They have an acid base to do the cleaning, and so care needs to be used: No direct sun, cool wheels, don't allow product to dry, and short working cycles. I don't personally like these cleaners but they are easily had by most.

I like to use Sonax wheel cleaner as its more pH neutural and really breaks up the build up. You can get some of this from DetailersDomain.com which is a forum sponsor.

Cheers,
Greg

ps. If you had photos that can help, from afar and up close

My grandfather used anti freeze on his trucks rims after riding around in that TN clay, i used it down here in FL and it works great, only problem is animals might lick it up out of your driveway

I'll might have to try that and all anti freeze is made now where it won't hurt animals if they happen to lick it up just FYI!
