I have a 10" waxer/buffer which I am looking for new bonnets/hoods for. Just wondering what are the best type? Terry, microfiber, wool.....? Thanx

What brand/kind is it?

If you go to Autogeek, they have a lot of good info on pads, etc.

I think you will only find the bonnets at places that sell that type of machine. auto parts stores.

That machine is pretty tame for the process of polishing and IMO is just a nice wax spreader, you would likely do a better job applying by hand.

cheers,

I agree, throw that thing away and buy a better polisher.

I got a great deal from autogeek I think, got a good discount and free shipping on the Porter Cable unit.

The Velcro pads are way better than bonnets. Then you can control the firmness of the pads, etc.

But if you are set on that unit, you can get bonnets at Sears hardware. I had that same unit, with a Craftsman label....

Thanx for the input guys. But I thought polishing was a different process than buffing/waxing. Just want to put wax on and shine it. Not looking to polish out scratches and the like.

Or am I looking at the process all wrong????

You can polish with a buffer. I do it all the time, just get the right pads and a gentle hand.

+1 Gert a Porter Cable 7424xp or Griot's Garage 6" with a 5" backing plate and Lake country 5.5" flat foam pads.

If you're just thinking about using it to apply/remove wax/sealant etc. don't use that machine. Do it by hand instead...It's faster, easier & safer.

Not looking to be ugly but...if you put a a big stick on that machine you could use it to wax floors. That machine is NG for automotive paint.

We all started out thinking that machine was what we needed. Off we went to the auto-parts store thinking it was the answer. Sadly, it's not.
