Default Marking forums read

Ok, we're getting more forums and more posters lately, which is good. The problem is if I don't read everything in one sitting and sign out then everything I haven't read is marked read. If I don't sign out then everything I've read is marked unread as if I was never on. Is there a way to change this so I can sign out and still have everything I haven't read still marked unread? Also, when I've read everything in one category I have to exit that category then go back in to mark them read. Can they automatically be marked read when I finish without having to go back into that category? When the posts spill over to a second page it doesn't matter if I go back in to mark them read, they won't mark read unless I go to "Mark all forums read". I'm only a member of one other forum, but there they have a "Mark forum read" under each forum instead of "Mark all forums read". It might be good to have both.

I thought there was something else along these lines but I can't remember it right now.

It doesn't work that way for me. If I sign out everything is marked read and if I don't sign out then everything is marked unread.

I'll look into any vbulletin settings that may impact this.
