Default Fix signatures?

Okay whats the deal i just spent like 15 minutes trying to put a small (38.3kb) picture 400wx125h and it just keeps putting a link instead. VERY annoying, what's going on here?

We have these restrictions because we find that thick/large signature pics really interfere with the readability of a site. I hope it doesn't cause too much inconvenience.

yes, it uploads correctly but is rewritten as a link when put in the signature and an attempt to save it as signature is made.
400x125 is annoying? its fairly small and you can edit the max file size so that it doesn't take time to load it.. jussst sayyyin...
