Chat Room
I really do think a chat room would be a great addition to the site. People who usually go throughout different parts of the forum and do not communicate could use this to communicate. It would weed out needless or minor posts. It would kill off private messages (for the most part unless people are offline) so that people don't have to use a 50 message inbox that requires refreshing to carry on a conversation. I just really think it would be a cool idea and would bring more life to the forum.

It would be a good idea and it has been discussed and considered many times before. The problem lies in that the admins do not want to lose factual data that may be of use to someone in the future by someone asking a question in the chatroom and getting instant responses that only last as long as the post is on the screen.
I would like to see it though. It'd be cool.

You know that would mean their would have to be somebody up 24/7 monitoring the chat?
I'm in total support of the idea of having chat, just pointing that out.

Lenn and I are on a lot, but not nearly that much. lol
I wouldn't mind seeing it come into play though. Be nice for a break at work or something and chat with folks.
But I understand the Admins hesitation as well.

I wonder though if we put a requirement of somebody to have 60 Days Tenure with the site to be able to access the chat room, that would eliminate a lot of spammers, and also those who have immediate questions, would still be posting up in the proper section and not in chat?
Sorta to keep chat more open to those who have been around a bit and not somebody brand new whose first post is "URGENT NEED ANSWERS QUIK!" or something retarded like that.

It would probably be the ideal way to eliminate any potential spam, keep the forums from losing any potential factual data, and create a good place for us to chat.

Yeah if the post count was what was required, somebody could just come on and spam a bunch of useless comments on threads but if we had a 60 or even 90 day Tenure requirement, that might work better.
Dunno, just an idea. We see what Jon and Nathan think.
