Hello yall I got me a 01 xterra up on the marketplace and it's gotten a lot of attention.. Its not a stock pony she got some aftermarket offroad tires a lightbar full engine rebuild and much more.. Got a offer from a guy who's wants to trade for his 05 F-150 and i wanted to know if it's worth it.. The truck he's offering has 110 000 miles on the odometer and he said he just changed the diff fluid and the tranny fluid on it.. Real question is are these years of truck reliable? The exterior caught my attention because I have a eye for odd looking things but putting that aside, I'm not looking to be on the side of a road every week.. Any tips from yall would be appreciated!
Not knocking the truck but 04-05 are hands down probably the most troublesome years for the F-150 assuming it has the Triton 5.4 v8.
They can be brought up to snuff with updated service parts so ask questions regarding the engine department. Has anything been done to it?
I had an 06, which was a little bit improved but it still needed all the plugs knocked loose with an impact gun, and the Lisle extraction tool was required on all but 2 spark plugs.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Then just Google it and read on!
What's up with the uneven hood gap with the Ford emblem haphazzardly stuck on in a random spot on the top of the grill? Driver's side door to fender gap also looks uneven in the pic. What, was this thing once smashed in a Border patrol car chase through the desert with dope in the bed then slapped back together?
Did the body repairs in his back yard with a 6 pack by his side but you believe he changed the tranny and transfer case fluid like he said he did? Your engine rebuild aside That Xterra looks very clean, thinking he would get the better end of this deal.

props on your theory of how this truck was treated gave me a good laugh.. the hood of the truck is ajar so that would explain the fender to hood gap.. On the reverse side I as well noticed the special emblem placement and the gap near the door.. Although personally I don't mind those it could lead me to some sort of frame damage from some previous event.. I only know this from personal experience.. I bought a 05 titan from a auction to find out that it had a bent frame which jacked up all the front body lines. Still talking with the wise man if he agrees to meet up I'll definitely do a thorough inspection to make sure everything is in order.. At the end of the day the motor and transmission is still a baby so as long as I can go from point A-B in tact I'm all in..
