Default wire plug on sending unit.

Hey guys. new to the forum here but have been lookin thru numerous threads...looks like a very helpful site. My problem is that I was replacing fuel pump and when i dropped the tank I pulled that 4 lead plug out of the cap. It must of been pressed in or something because now i can not get the plastic washers and the wires on. ford dealer says i got to buy complete assembly ($400) the auto parts store says they can sell me just the sending unit wich should have the wiring plug already installed ($140)...I already spent $200 on this job and am losing money everyday i cant drive it....does anyone know of a fix it for this....I can email pics if needed but not sure how to load pics here. thanks for any help. oh its a 1995 f150 with 4.9l steel tank.

yeah I was just about ready to do that, but I thought well now that Ive calmed down let me rethink this. I ended up taking the 3 ring plastic retainer and ground it a lil flater, straightened out thepins slipped theloops over the ends of the pins and used a punch to press the end of the pins flat. worked great. just thought I would explain for anyone else that has this problem in the future. thanks.
