Default Wind Gust, damaged door

The other day I was at the beach, opened my door and a really strong wind gust blew my driver side door open. Happened so fast I couldn't even get a good grip to slow it down. Anyways, I didn't think that much of it until I looked near the doors edge. Here's some pics.

Wondering how much this will cost. It's small but bothers me. Closing the door feels a little off too. Has this happened to anyone? Im wondering if Ford had better detents this wouldn't of happened?

That happened to my last truck. It was a lot worst then this. It chipped the paint on my truck. The thing that sucked the most was that after that, the door would always open and hit that hinge.

My wife had a similar problem with her Focus. Damage was significantly worse though. Body lines no longer match, but the door does function correctly. Car has 240k on it so we're not going to bother getting it fixed.

Happened to me. It was Jan. of 2013. I got out of the truck at the bank during a storm and a wind gust ripped the door right out of my hands. The door flew open and thankfully there wasn't a car parked next to me. It would not of been pretty. Afterwards the door wouldn't shut tight. It damaged both the door and the fender in about the same area as yours. I called my ins. company and I took it to my Ford dealer for repair. Estimate was for about $1,200.00 bucks. They had the truck for a week, and they paid for a rental, a new '13 F150 at the time. They had to do the repair, then blend the paint. I have an '11 Lariat with the Red Candy metallic, dark clear coat. So they had to blend from the rear door to the front bumper. They even had to remove my front brushguard to do the blending. They then replaced my 6.2 badge I put on, and the F150 emblem on the fender. After I got it back I had to take it back for some issues. So, for me it was quit an ordeal. Hope it will not be like that for you.

My wife left the rear driver side door open on our 1 year old Kia about a year or so ago backed into our carport post. We took it to a body shop, he pulled and yanked on the door and got it to align properly for no charge. The door was damaged a bit where the carport post hit but we didnt get it fixed, it was just cosmetic now and hardly noticeable.

Common issue with these trucks. There is a guy on here selling improved door detents called Northlight or something like that. I will do a search and edit this post....

Common issue with any vehicle. Wind can grab any door, on any vehicle.

Maybe so, but it seems to be very easy to do in these trucks, hence the market for an improved door detent.

it boils down to these trucks have big doors with a lot of surface area

in other words a lot of area for wind to blow against...a door check WILL NOT prevent that from happening
