Default For the seats...

Without the nerf bars, you (at least me) have a tendency to slide more into the driver seat as opposed to sitting down on the seat. The nerf bars allow you to get higher and sit down on the seat and not slide into the seat. I think this decreases the wear pattern on the seat. I have seen trucks without bars that have quite a bit more wear on the seats. Anyone seen this too?

I doubt the stock ones would help prevent any damage at all, I believe they are made out of aluminium and thats not going to stop a thing.

With my truck being lifted it just makes it easier on eveyone getting in. I am 6'3'' so I dont really need them. But they do protect the seats. People actually fall out of my truck with them on, how would they do without them on. lol.

Ok, responding to an old thread, but only one person said it:

Exactly! Sitting on the edge and then sliding in the truck can wear the seat. I also like the way they look

Two reasons. My wife, all 5'4 of her, and it helps wash the top of the truck. :-)

i had factory ones but took them off because they got my clean pants dirty, i never used them to get in and out the only thing they do for me is if your gonna get hi centered it will protect the truck other than that they actualy made it easier to get stuck!especialy in the snow but i do have stock suspension and im 6'4" and wash the top of my truck off the tool box in the back. and mine looks better with them off
