Why do Dodges seem to sit Higher?
#21
So I have a 2016 F-150 King Ranch (Love the truck) and now I'm working on ordering a new 2018 Platinum but before I make the commitment there's one thing that really bugs me, and that's the Dodges just seem physically Larger (Don't ask why but I like it, and I notice the ladies seem to like Dodges more).
My neighbor has one and his hood sit about 2.5/3.0 inches higher than my own.
Just asking, no trolling please.

Trying to figure it out!
I had a Dodge 2500 and it Definately had more ground clearance while the roof being lower. I could pull in and out of the parking garage at work and not be close to the sign but now I'm barely ove an inch away from it with my 150. Definately the way they're designed, and I liked it.

Several friends with 4th gen 1500 Rams and haven't notice sitting any higher than my truck (except for one with the Rebel due to it's air suspension).
Now the 4wd 2500/3500 HD's is a different story.

Observation, then again another neighbor has one and it sits lower than my f150, and a neighbor with a 2015 sits almost an inch high than my own (he doesn't have the FX4).

Ground clearance at the lowest point, the axle, is determined by tire size. With equal size tires there will only be a fraction of an inch difference between any vehicle.
But on 4X4 trucks Dodge has been building their 4X4 versions with the body mounted higher for at least 17-18 years. It is like getting a 1-2" lift from the factory.
Ford used to do this. Google F-250 highboy. They were quite popular through the 1970's. These are factory suspensions.

My 2001 body was my ch further off the ground than the 150 but overhead clearance was lower. Like in my previous post, same parking garage I was more than 2" away from the bar in the Dodge but at most 1.5" (I know it's less because going up one tire size has me worries about not fitting). Definately parts of the body is made less tall overall to do this. Hope that makes more sense than the way it reads.

Going with Platinum, V8, can’t add anything else to the truck for options so it is done and ordered.
now I’m pumped.

You will be stoked. Just remember that Ford's 5.0 Coyote V8 is a sports car engine and should be driven accordingly, rpm-wise. They are fantastic engines. Anyone who thinks they're "dogs" or that they "can't get out of their own way" cannot drive. They're clueless; they're not real drivers for the sake of driving. They only want instant gratification and in an appliance*. 5.0 buyers know better. We are the connoisseurs.
Congratulations.
*I am exaggerating, but not much, and only for the sake of humor. The EcoBoost engines are technological marvels and create prodigious quantities of torque nearly off-idle, like a big diesel.

I was trying to put my finger on what I didn't quite like about the RAMs when looking at trucks, and I think "bulbous" is the perfect word for it. I like the flatness of the F150 compared to the roundness that I just didn't care for.
Another thing, that has been mentioned here, is that they just seemed to be a little bit less refined. The finishes weren't as nice. However, I liked the infotainment interface better on the RAM than the Sync2/MyTouch interface.
