Amid all the chest-thumping, the OP is, in fact, legally in the wrong. If you know you've been involved in any type of vehicular accident, all involved parties have a legal obligation to stop and exchange information. Whether you're the at-fault party in the collision is irrelevant.
I don't know MN law in particular, but leaving the scene of a collision (hit-and-run) is generally a criminal traffic offense. You should consider yourself lucky at this point that you didn't take a ride in bracelets.
Good luck.

If I recall, he said he didnt know until he got home. If he did infact have stuff sliding around in his bed and the hit was soft enough that it didnt cause any damage to his truck or hitch, thats a believable story and he should stick to it. I do agree that the trouble he is in is for leaving the scene, and that trumps what the other guy did, but with the extinuating circumstances of not knowing he was involved, I think that gets him off the hook. Personally, I dont neccessarily believe it 100%. I think there were some shenanigans going on that contributed to the collision but thats just my personal opinion. If the OP keeps his yap shut about that, he should be ok here.

In california idk if in minnesota its not up to the "victim" to press charges it is up to the district attorney. if the case is good youll have to go to court. if not it would just get dismissed and it would be up to your insurance company to settle it. most likely they are going to say its your fault. I know this because i took some criminal justice classes in college. AJ 01

Please be responsible
First of all "No Fault Insurance" in most states only applies to BI (bodily injury) and NOT PD (property damage.) Not sure about your state but that's in PA.
Second, how does that remove the responsibility to stop and id yourself, exchange information and assist? How do you know for sure that no one was injured?
Third, grow up! OK, I understand other idiot drivers. Don't be one yourself. Who started it anyway. Pay attention and stay in your own lane.
Fourth, anyone that reads this should learn from this experience to not imitate this person's immaturity. Be responsible and act like an adult.
