yea West thats why I didn't go to college right outta highschool cuz I wasn't the school type. I got pretty good grades I just hated it. I live in a small town so there isn't alot around here. Best paying jobs are in the factories and you gotta have some good connections to get in there. I didn't go to college rightaway cuz i didn't know what to go for, and i still dontreally know. I just feel that having that payment is holding me back from certain things

Even more reason to join the military-no schooling required, not factory work, and if you really like it, retirement in 20 years (I'll be 41 when I retire)

I understand.....believe me I do. My wife is a guidance counselor at our local high school.(she's always pro college but respects people that don't want to go as well) It takes a bunch of time and money. And in the end your not always promised anything. If you just really wanted to go to school could you go at night at a time when your not working? It might take a little longer but you could get it done if you wanted.....keep your job at Ford and work towards being a tech or something else. That would be cool to....

I gotta agree, I went through the same things. Finally decided the military was the right fit for me. And now I will be able to retire when I am 41 as well

1. Ask your mom to front you the truck payment....either way, she will be making the payment. Save up a little and fix the issues she has on her truck.

2. Go ROTC, let Uncle Sam pay your way. I'm not sure if they still offer the monthly stipend, which will help make your payment. Or, go national Guard. The drill pay will make your payment easily.

3. Keep your job, and find a reputable school that offers online courses. Stay away from "for-profit" collueges like Colorado Tech, Phoenix University etc. Reputable brick and mortar schools such as Franklin, Liberty, University of Maryland etc offer great online programs. This will also allow you to figure out if you are a school person, before making the commitment....maybe try one class to start off with.

4. Enlist in the Army. Depending on your MOS, you could get a nice size bonus, training, tuition assistance after AIT, Post 9-11 G.I Bill, and if you qualify, a Secret Clearance that will make you marketable for future Gubment jobs (see USAjogs.org).

5. move to an area that is more economically stable, and the job market is not as tight.

School and car payments can be done at the same time. As a College Junior, I had a $350 car payment, $600 rent, utilities, bar tab and school related expenditures. Those are things I did not want to give up, so I worked my tail off to make it happen. I worked about 30 hours a week as a server in fine dining and would rake in about $600 a week, working thurs, fri, sat night and sunday brunch. Not sure where you live, but servers are always needed. Not to mention, it is a skill that will always bring in money......if I for some reason get out of the Army I can serve tables to tide me over till I get a job in my degree field.

No disrespect to anyone who joins the army or armed forces and it's great that you can retire early but it ain't for everyone. My dad served and he hated it. I'm sure I would to....I guess I'm to non compliant for the army or any other service.

just like alot of others on here, i went to college full time and held a job to pay for my vehicle, rent, and other bills...student loans are amazing! you can take out extra money at such a low interest rate its almost stupid not to use them...i used some extra loan money for bills on occasion...its all payed back 2 years later and ive got the job ive always wanted...you can get yourself a job and make that payment trust me....just takes alot of hard work when all your college buddies are partying...

^pretty much what HiOffcr said. I'm obviously military, and an E6. Current E-1 (entry level) Active Duty will get you 1447.20 per month, and you still get 3 hot meals and living space for free. For college, you get TA, which for the Navy is 16 credit hours per year and it covers up to 250 per credit hour (which Liberty University lowers it's price per credit hour to 250 just for the military-IDK about the others) and you get the post 9-11 GI bill, which will pay for a full 4 year degree from a state college after your military service. Keep in mind that the 1447.20 is the entry pay for any job in the military as an E-1. You could be a cook and still get 1447.20. Now, at least for the Navy, after 9 months, you are guaranteed advancement to E-2, 1622.10 per month. 9 months after that, auto E-3, 1705.80 per month. from there on out you take exams to advance. I realize that 1447.20 per month doesn't look like much, but when you figure that you don't have to pay for housing, food, medical, or dental it really starts to sound a lot better. Not to mention that this is the base pay, as in the minimum. You could get more for special duties (subs, special locations, ceremonial guard, etc). And not every job in the military is as dangerous as many people think.
