Wow didn't know Pine Tree scents were corrosive...crazy. After using various types of scents I now use the glade AC vents. Seemed to be the best so far.

I moved mine yesterday when I noticed a bit of discoloration. I always hung them on the column shifter but now I gotta find a new place...

It is the aromatic oils in the fresheners that are doing this. They are volatile oils and work by readily evaporating as airborne molecules when exposed to air, giving you the nice scent of pine trees but also mixing the evaporating oils with the plastics in the vehicle. I had a BMW where I stuffed one in the rear seat oddments box and forgot about it. Over the course of a couple of months, it weakened the plastic enough that it basically fell apart. It also did the peeling shown in the OP pictures. For me, I think I'm staying away from anything like this in my vehicles. There are other ways to freshen a vehicle.

You know, I was at Wally World yesterday and almost bought the "*** and feet scented tree". But decided to go with the new car aroma instead.

I've had this happen to me a while back. The problem is with the horrible decision to have painted trim pieces in cars. Anything oily can cause the paint to "melt". With mine, I accidentally got some armor-all on a similar piece and didn't think anything of it. A little while later...the paint slid right off. So be careful with the painted areas...
