So, a bit over $1500 for water pump replacement, 2 days without the truck. A flatbed ride back to the dealer to remove air from the system, another day without the truck. Truck still had high fan problems and slight overheating. Left the truck in my garage while researching. Took me 1.5 hours to install a new Ford thermostat and O-ring, a plastic housing, really? Parts were $45 for hardware and $15 for antifreeze.

Thanks for the help, rethinking Ford as an option in the future.

do you mean you paid dealer $1500 for a water pump job, but they didn’t replace to tstat, gasket, nor vacuum filled it? if so, that is pretty incompetent in their part. We’re you able to document any of these details?

why did you have to do the tstat? Did they refuse to do it?

Correct, they hit me for over $1500 for a water pump job, they did take the truck back to remove air. They were unable to schedule further work to troubleshoot the high fan issue, so I did it myself.

sounds like total incompetence. May not be worth trying to fight them on it, but they totally screwed you over.

It’s one thing to overcharge for work, but inexcusable to overcharge and provide incompetent work product. Wonder if they reused you coolant too.

what did the original work order call for ?

The original issue was that I noticed a very slow coolant leak, traced to the water pump. I read that the water pump on these don't last 100k. I asked them to replace the water pump. It was after that repair and the recall to remove air from the system that the fan started running on high far too often. The fix for that is a Ford brand thermostat and about 1.5 hours of your time...... including torque to spec on that plastic housing.

Were they supposed put the tstat in with the water pump job? If not, was it suggested, but decline, or did they never mention it and not put it on work order?
