Default Trip computer

I have a 2014 super crew with the 5.0L with 1500 km on it. How accurate is the trip computer? It's says I have used 103.6L and only have 25 km til empty. If it's a 136L tank then I really should have at least a 1/4 tank left.

Thanks

My tank gauge has been fairly accurate. What has been inaccurate is the onboard mpg calculation.

My computer typical indicates approx. 2.0 gal less fuel used than actual per 1/2 tank fill (20 gal at pump to fill tank, computer shows 18 used). This will throw off MPG and MTE calculations.

Thanks a lot. I fueled up today. I put in 122L. I never took into account idling and remote start. So it was off 19L.

If you really want to keep track of your fuel usage, mpg, DTE, even engine trouble codes, etc., consider the UltraGauge. Best $60 I ever spent on my truck. It plugs into the OBD plug-in below the steering wheel, and you can calibrate it with each fill-up.

It matches my gallons used to gallons pumped to less than 1 gallon.

And it even does it in that weird metric stuff you guys in Canada use, LOL.

My 2012 was right on the money. If I went to fill up and it said 13.6 gallons used that is what it would be to fill up. My 2014 not do it is off by about 1.5 gallons.

I have a 2010, which has no calibration mode built in.

Does the 2014 maybe have that feature?

No such feature. This gets discussed weekly on the forum.

You will never match the gas used vs. what you put in unless...

1) You fill up at the exact same ambient temperature every time.

2) You fill to the exact same capacity of your tank, using the same pump at the same gas station.

Most of the time you'll find yourself within a gallon or so, sometimes 1/2 gallon.

That is a given. But on that Ultra Gauge, after calibrating it for 3 fill-ups, it corrects for the OBD output error,

I filled up with 21 gallons today, and was within .8 gals. low on the gauge. That is about a 4% difference. I've gotten closer, 2%.

So if I was getting 18 mpg on the gauge, I would be 0.7 mpg off, or sometimes .35 mpg off, which is acceptable. The truck reading was about 1.5 mpg high.

Without calibration, you will always have that built in error on the truck, and it could be high or low.
